Houses and Mountain Passes

So this is my new mountain house. And this is the Continental Divide. What does it do? Divide the continent? We weren't 100% sure but it does serve as a middle point for the Independence Pass which took us from Buena Vista to Aspen, Colorado. We found swanky, swanky stores right next to thrift stores and stores selling ski items at 75% off. I had great fish tacos and bought a winter coat on the cheaps. AND found "Shut the Box" along with the most fabulous "Where's Waldo" sock hat at the thrift store! All in all, a good day off. Today I played a round and a half of Frisbee Golf and toured the town. Definitely Stars Hollow sized. In other news, I think I'm getting the hang of the back handed Frisbee throw. Look out world!

If Three's a Charm, Eleven's a Jinx

So there I was. Doing...well at Frisbee Golf. One or two above par maybe. That is, until this shot!

How do I even describe number 11? First of all, it's located approximately four thousand steps above the rest of the course which is down in a valley. After trooping up to the very highest deck porch, we all took our turns...and then excavated our frisbees from trees and sloping rocky paths...and then took more turns...

Everyone else seems to have come out somewhat respectably. I, however, tried to change the game to par 37 to help me along with my newly revamped score...

I've got some practicing to do, folks!

PS. Someone with more of a technological wizardry should tell me how to connect my Twitter and BookFace! The FB link hasn't worked for me as of yet...

Colorado, Y'all!

So after I stopped fawning over the AMAZING view here in Buena Vista, CO the very next thing I shrieked excitedly about was the Frisbee Golf course. Mostly in that there is one. I'm going to practice every day and finally be able to beat all you pros back at Rockbridge.

This camp is amazing. Like Rockbridge but so different. The view here is ridiculous. So is the amount of wind I've been sucking. The elevation here is close to 8000 ft. so I've been hydrating myself to deal with the general lack of oxygen. As you can guess that made for a somewhat longer drive today than it needed to be.

I took pictures to distract myself from having to pee.

Here is the drive as seen through the driver's side windshield of my car.

And now here I sit, outside the main lodge in the dark, back against an old wagon wheel (it's attached to a bench lest you think I'm actually in a ghost town), siphoning internet to update you all. I think I have to go. It's getting even creepier than it was originally...

Remind me to do this during the day light hours from now on.

One last thing, I set up my room. Here's my nook:

On the Road Again

I think I drove more consecutive hours today than I did on any of our stretches driving across the country.

If you haven't heard, I'm on the road headed to Trail West Young Life Camp in Buena Vista, Colorado!

After the MOST amazing parting night in Los Angeles (i.e. A yogurt establishment crawl akin to a pub crawl except more toppings and frozen dessert!) I hit the road early this morning and drove north through the desert and UFO landing strip that is the space between LA and Las Vegas.

I waved at the Sin City and continued on my way passing hilarious signs (Zzyzx Road, Fresh Alien Jerky, and Elk Crossing, to name a few) and eventually came to beautiful canyon and plateau landscape. The sunset was amazing over the red clay rocks and shadowy gorges sprawling out from my rest stop on the side of the road.

I eventually turned east across Utah. Where I still am. I'm beginning to realize I'm not used to a state being so big that I have to be careful where I stop so as not to get stuck needing something during a stretch of "No Service 110 miles." Another hilarious sign in my long travels today.

Anyway, I've got a bit more driving to do tomorrow but then I officially arrive at my new Young Life job! So excited!

But missing all my lovely LA folks! And Phunky Northern Virginians!

More to come soon!

PS. Thought I'd include Exhibit A, here, so as to dazzle you all with my mattress storing skills.
